FAQs

  • Yes! Any student can audition for a scholarship. Visit our “Audition” page for more information.

  • We have students from over 50 degree programs in The SOUND. We find students can make it work with any degree and will work with students to make it possible. Students enter college with 200 friends on campus, have a consistent group of people who will check up on you, have travel opportunities, and a great way to build relationships and leadership skills.

  • We rehearse 6 hours a week. When we have a home football game, we have rehearsal in the morning, play for tailgates, and have the game, making it an all-day experience. Students also help host the A-State Open Marching Festival and travel for the bowl game (at no cost to the student).

  • All students pay a $50 uniform fee that covers dry-cleaning and their secondary uniform (beanie, ball cap, sunglasses, t-shirt, shorts, and clear bag). Students also have to buy a subscription to the UDB app ($10). Lastly, students provide their marching shoes ($40 if needed) and a lyre and/or phone mount as we use all electronic files for music and drill. Those who need assistance with these items can contact Dr. Allegra Fisher.

  • Concert Ensemble auditions take place the two days before classes start. Students prepare excerpts and scales sent out by email about one month prior to auditions. Students sign-up for an audition time outside the band room (in the Fine Arts building).

  • For marching band/pep band questions, email Dr. Allegra Fisher (afisher@astate.edu). For scholarship and concert ensemble questions, email Dr. Nick Balla (nballa@astate.edu). For music education questions, email Dr. Andrew Bohn (abohn@astate.edu)
